The Tenuta dell'Ornellaia winery is located in the most beautiful part of Tuscany. It was founded by Marquis Lodovico Antinori in 1981. From the very beginning, the company has aimed to create outstanding wines. The passion and dedication of the marquis to his work, combined with the unique terroir and favourable climate, have brought overwhelming success and fame to the local wines, and the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia winery has become one of the greatest in the world.
Solaia's history dates back to 1385. Today, it is run by a representative of the 26th generation of the Antinori family, the Marquis Piero Antinori. It was largely thanks to his winemaking talent and relentless pursuit of excellence that Italian wines have become some of the best in the world, and the name Antinori has become a symbol of innovation and high quality.
Sassicaia is Italy's first Super Tuscan wine. This outstanding creation of the famous oenologist Giacomo Tachis appeared in 1968. For its accomplishments in the field of Italian winemaking, the government has awarded the Tenuta San Guido estate with an independent appellation, Sassicaia Bolgheri DOC. In the Tuscan dialect, Sassicaia means "stone ground".
