Chateau Mouton Rothschild is one of the greatest châteaux of Bordeaux and the brightest star of the Pauillac wine-growing commune. Nathaniel Rothschild bought an estate here in 1853, but it was his grandson Philippe who took up winemaking in earnest. He was the first one who decided to bottle the wine directly in the estate, without going through intermediaries. Baron Philippe was also the only person who managed to change the classification of Bordeaux wines, which had not changed since 1855. It was revised in 1973, and the estate changed its grade from the second growth to the well-deserved first. Chateau Mouton Rothschild is also famous for its collection of wine labels. Since 1945, they have featured the works of famous contemporary artists.
