The history of the Sine Qua Non brand began in 1994, when the Austrian emigrant Manfred Krankl came to California and became the owner of a modest confectionery. He managed to settle in California only on the second attempt, and the confectionery did not bring much profit. Then he and his wife had a new hobby - to make wine with their own hands and treat them to friends. One of his friends really liked the wine that Manfred made, and he wanted to buy it. The first vintage "Queen of Spades" was released in limited quantities and made a real furore. A label was engraved by the owner himself using a special method. So the hobby turned into a profession. "We wanted to make a truly delicious and unique wine, different from everyone else, for true connoisseurs," said Manfred Krankl and his wife Elaine.

The wines of the Sine Qua Non farm are still available in limited editions today, and lovers and collectors all over the world crave for it. Therefore, there is a special waiting list on which anyone can sign up. Each bottle and each label is still made by Manfred himself using the linocut method. Wine critic Robert Parker, visiting the winery, which was then located in the backyard of one of the industrial facilities, found the atmosphere there similar to the scenery from the movie "Mad Max." But this did not prevent from assigning the wines of the economy high ratings of 96 points and higher.
