The USA is one of the largest wine producers in the world. Today, almost all 50 States produce wine. The key role in American wine production is undoubtedly played by California, where 90% of all wines in the country are produced.
Changes in the industry occurred in the 1950s, when the volume of wine production reached 500 million liters per year. In the next decade, wine production in California and the United States began to experience a real upsurge. In many ways, this was the merit of a Russian immigrant, Andrey Chelishchev, who taught California winemakers wine science. In 1976, during wine tasting in Paris, American Cabernet and Chardonnay came over the Bordeaux Premiers CRU. That was a success, after which a new era in the development of winemaking began in California and the United States.
